Remember all that *****ing and whining around the time of E3 over Left 4 Dead? Remember when Valve was "abadoning" all the Left 4 Dead fans for the greener pastures of the sequel? Remember how they promised DLC and wait... did deliver?
Yes a new campaign is coming from the crew at Valve for the original Left 4 Dead. Crash Course is the name and Destructiod has an exclusive preview. I doubt this will quell all the complainers as surely the next excuse will be "it's not enough", "we deserve more". A new campaign is a plus for most of us however and I can't wait to check it out. It is of course FREE for PC users though it will cost Xbox Live folks 560 gamer points.
The Destructoid preview covers some of the cool aspects of the new DLC:- Takes place between No Mercy and Death Toll
- Geared more towards a shorter Versus experience (Two chapters)
- Is playable in both Survival and Campaign modes
- Second stage is one of the best in the game
- 25 minutes of intense Versus action
I like this idea of a shortened Versus match to be honest. I've played quite a few 4v4s with all friends and almost every time someone has to drop over the time constraints regarding a full campaign. The second stage sounds quite awesome but I will let you read it if you want the spoilers.
September is the month for more free Left 4 Dead content that's awash in broken promises! ;-]

Crash Course Campaign Due in September
August 4, 2009 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the next major downloadable content (DLC) update for its co-operative zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead (L4D), the #1 new game title on Xbox 360 and PC in 2008
Entitled "Crash Course," the latest DLC delivers new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay to both platforms. Targeted for release in September, "Crash Course" bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game, expanding the game universe with new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale
While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of "Crash" is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay.
"Since the release of Left 4 Dead last November, the design team has been excited about creating new experiences for this world and allowing players to do the same, by releasing much of our internal toolset, like the Survival Pack and Authoring Tools," said Gabe Newell. "We're working with the fans toward the ongoing entertainment value of the product."
Left 4 Dead is an action horror game from Valve that blends the social entertainment experience of multiplayer games such as Counter-Strike and Team Fortress with the dramatic, narrative experience made popular in single player action game classics such as the Half-Life
Left 4 Dead: Crash Course is targeted for release in September and will be available free of charge on the PC and for 560 Gamer points on Xbox Live.
For more information, please visit www.l4d.com series of games. Released in November of 2008, L4D has earned over 50 industry awards from outlets around the world and sold almost 3 million copies worldwide.

You've got to be ******* kidding me.
This is like a lackluster appetizer from the McDonald's Dollar Menu while they string us along for the $50 pie in November.
"25 intense minutes." Shorter campaign, great. I'm glad we waited almost a freaking year for the first actual fresh competitive content.
Maybe by 2015 they'll actually work on the scoring system! I've given up on 4v4 matchmaking altogether. Full of fail, once again.
The L4D team is a ginormous pimple on the face of an otherwise e-mazing company.

Q ******* Q? You paid no more than 50 dollars for it and it's still a lot of fun to play. Get rid of your sense of entitlement, you don't deserve ****.

I'm entitled to paying money for a quality product from a quality company that actually makes due of their promises. In the case of L4D, my money was an investment in promises that never came through. I'm glad you have fun with that piece of trash; in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if you're still having fun trying to fit the square peg through the round hole. Some of us, however, actually care about being challenged and entertained when the company promises a product to challenge and entertain us but delivers nothing but a sequel. Eat a dick and go back to your terrible pub now.

Well this is ghey. I haven't played L4D in 1-2 months and don't really plan on it. I just posted it on craigslist, hopefully I can get 30 bucks for my copy(on 360) before the price plummets and it's worth nothing. L4D was one of the most amazing games I've ever played(fun wise) for the first week(played LAN, crazy when you're drunk & high aka drigh lol), then it got EXTREMELY old. I'll still pick up L4D2(will give Valve benefit of the doubt). Honestly this is probably just some cut content from L4D2 that they figured was too ****ty to include in the sequel...

I still don't see my 4v4 Matchmaking. You know, that thing they said we were gonna get along time ago. Its almost like they look on the steam forums, and do the exact opposite of whats asked. Like fixing bugs. Or making 4v4 matchmaking.

There are growing communities on steam vowing to boycott L4d2 because they feel it should be a add on and introduced at a lower cost for people who allready own L4D.
But i really dont understand why they are whining Valve did the same thing with the Half Life saga and no body cried about that and Gearbox even made money off Half Life intoducing Opposing Force and Blue Shift.
It should be interesting to see what Valve does.
Also Valve vowed to keep the DLC for L4D free but now they are charging Xbox users 560 gamer pioints to download it but the PC is free.
Personally I would never buy a Xbox 360 or a Playstation 3 Because ive been a pc gamer since the start and feel it would be a waist of money since my PC is Way more powerfull and i dont need to pay to play!!!!!!!!!
PC GAMER 4 LIFE !!!!!!!!!!

Valve has no choice in regards to cost on the 360. This is mandated by Microsoft and if they could make it completely free they would have. MS will have none of that though.

Put short, it might as well have been a 3rd party Add-On. Stop wasting our time with this lack luster content.
